Hannes is leading the technical biochar strategy at South Pole to scale carbon removal through climate finance. He is working with different carbon standards to ensure robustness of carbon credits derived from biochar operations and supports biochar producers to ensure compliance with the latest requirements for climate action projects globally. Hannes has a background in sustainable development and agriculture and has worked on natural capital assessment and climate change mitigation, holding an MSc in Geography with a focus on the resilience of land management under the influence of climate change from the University of Bonn.
